Link Issue

Greetings!!

I have an excel file say File A into which data appears through link i.e from another file say File B.

But at times when I try to open the link(File B) through File A, a message pops up which shows file cannot be opened.

Again I have to apply the link to make it function.

May I know why that happens

Check the property of link. Does it show absolute path or relative path to the file?

If it is relative path, then I'd recommend switching to absolute, as relative path has been known to break when location of the file containing the link moves.

How to check whether it is absolute or relative?
Further to that file location and formulas inside the files remain the same as they do not change

..\folder\filename is relative.

Absolute reference will be something like...
\\ServerName\Folder\file
Or
C:\Folder\File
