Learn charting

Dear All:

I'd like to ask you the best way to learn charting in Excel. I saw some great posts in Charting section of the website but I feel completely lost, for example the post about creating the tax burden chart with scrollbar. I got dizzy because I don't understand how it was created.

Hope to hear your suggestions and comments to improve and learn, thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards from Paraguay, South America

Juan

Hi Juan ,

I think the following resources are among the best on the Internet ; you can go through those you are comfortable with :

1. http://blogs.office.com/b/microsoft-excel/archive/2012/05/30/excel-tutorials-on-charts-.aspx

2. http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ChartIndex.html

3. http://www.contextures.com

As far as the Chandoo website is concerned , all the articles on charting are found startting from here :

http://chandoo.org/wp/category/visualization/page/20/

This is the first page ; the pages after this will be :

http://chandoo.org/wp/category/visualization/page/19/

http://chandoo.org/wp/category/visualization/page/18/

and so on. The articles in the later pages will , in general , be more advanced than the articles in the earlier pages.

The important thing is to start slow. Star with the basics and then build up from there. Starting off by looking at the tax burden chart, which is pretty advanced, is going to cause you nothing but frustration as you dont have a solid foundation yet. Though, just spending a few days and experiment with different techniques you will quickly get the hang of it. Just follow those links and you will be good to go.

Thanks a lot Narayank991 and Nick M for your great responses! I completely felt lost and frustated, as Nick M said, because the tax burden chart is very intimidating at first sight and I am not familiar with the basics. You have a great idea, Narayank 991, I will start reading from the earliest page of Chandoo's forum to learn step by step. I really appreciate your time in helping me, thanks a lot!

I am a pretty advanced Excel user. However, I worked in Accounting and my chart knowledge is somewhat vague. I now have a position where I need to become expert fast..Advise?

Just an fyi: I like to find the quickest way out : ) I generally can do so with formulas but that may have come with years of practice...so I am looking for a shortcut way
