Issue with linking cell to external file

Hi All,

I have a really weird issue. Basically, I have two excel files opened and I would like to link cell from one file to another one (sth like. '='Second file!A1") but just using my mouse not typing the formula with the path to the second file. I can't do that.
When I typed "=" and switched to the second file I can't select any cell, it's like forgetting about my action from the first file and I can normally work on the file I switched to. After coming back to the first file where I already typed "=" I still have thi function opened and can select any cell from this worksheet.

Do you know what is wrong with my files? Why they don't "read' each other?
I tried saving in the same excel versions.

Thanks,
Kuba

Akuku,

Not sure how you are dealing with...
Try following step:

Press = in your current sheet
Click on the taskbar... where your 2nd file is opened... click that file.
Select the cell you want to link (using mouse click)
Press enter

Regards,

I would guess you have two instances of EXCEL.EXE running for some reason. This you can check by using Task Manager.

Please close all Excel workbooks (Make sure you save or do not save as applicable while closing the workbooks). Open the first workbook and then open the other one using Open option in the file menu and then retry.
