Issue with Data Validation List from another Workbook

I have two workbooks. Workbook1 contains validated list which is defined by a Range name and is pulled from workbook2. Now when i lock the cells in workbook1 and protect the sheet where i have validation list i am unable to change the value of the list when i close workbook2. But if i open the workbook2 i am able to change the values of the validation list.


Is there any solution for same?

Pull the list from workbook2 into some regular cells off to the side in workbook1 (using a regular linking formula), and then base your validation off of that. I'm guessing XL can't process the pulling of info and validating in the same step.

Put the named range in the first workbook.
