Importing data from one excel file to another excel file

Hi, pls help if time permits,

When I go to "veiw and use existing data connections" to link another excel file to extract some data, I don't get the similar original data formats, whereas it past the information as a table, is there a way to get external source information in the same orginal formats (number type, date, font, etc)

Nishan

(I can not upload files, i.e getting an error message, pls help if anybody can understand the question)

Regards,

Hi Nishan,

It is good to see you back on the forum.

As to your question I do not think that you can transfer the formats.

Hi Nishan,

are you trying to retain the existing formats or do you want to transfer the formats from the external file?

You may consider, opening the external file and copy/pasting the contents across.

cheers

kanti

Thanks Knati,

But that will take lot of time( to copy and past 16 sheets), I tell you why,

I prepare Accounts which needs to be sent every month, with working about 40 sheets are there in the book, but I have to send only Acccounts (about 16 sheets) without wokings, now I hide the working and send only the sheets which are needed by the head office as accounts. However the file size is big due to this reason, Other companies which send the similar accounts get print outs and enter again (obviously there file size is samll due to the absense of links in the work book) which I hate to do. However I am getting complains to reduce the file size due to the difficulty in emailing large file sizes. That is why I tried on data importing option to get only the relavant sheets but I lose the orginal formats of Accounts in this option.

Is there any other option/ way to help

Please help ,

Regards,
Nishan

Hi Nishan,

A solution, might be to link the imported data to a formatted sheet and then you can use that sheet.

Thanks kchiba,

I ll try that way but am still worried about the file size and I have sent the source file and linked file, more question might come,

Thanks anyway

Hi, NIshan!
Consider uploading a sample file (including manual examples of desired output if applicable), it'd be very useful for those who read this and might be able to help you. Thank you.
Regards!

Ok Sir,

When I tried to upload am getting an error message saying large file size, I'll mail it and please try to include it in the forum, use the first sheet macro buttons in the bottom of the sheet to understand how I hide and send it now (i.e I take 6 copies of the working file and run these macors and get 6 different sets of information.
