How to save a workbook?

How to save a workbook?
I would like to save only data and other necessary information that REALLY need!
So, I actually mean how to save a clean workbook!
'File -> Save or Ctrl+S' saves a workbook,
but in the same time there are saving a lot of 'old information' too.
Many times, I have had 'challenge' that then I open a workbook, it starts asking 'links'.
Yes, it should do so too ... if it really needs (a link-file has moved or so),
but if those links are deleted/breaked/not used anymore for long time.
For some reason links 'seems' suddenly to be become active again.
It can try to tell, which workbook - which sheet and so on, but after saving and opening again, no help.
I have learnt that every time, then I open a workbook, it automatic makes known place a backup (max 50 versions). So, if that kind of unwanted wakeup happends, I could have older cleaner version.
Have anyone noticed same kind of unwanted feature?
Yes, I would like to get 'a clean workbook'.
ps. I phoned to Microsoft Customservice too :) and
they know only normal 'Save'-procedure - of course :)

...which tells you !!!!
If the links are asking for update or any thing else it is because they are there some where. you must delete them, slow work but how do you know what to delete, what should go what should stay only you know. as MS said in a round about way...you will have to do it.

.

Okay,I see. You haven't seen this before.
If it could be as easy as just delete them, I would do that a long time ago.
But, so far, I haven't find how to delete something that cannot find in normal way. Those 'links and so' are somewhere workbook-file, 'non visible area'. If I could edit 'raw workbook-file', it could be possible. I just don't know how!
The MS Customservice can tell only something that can find from normal instruction book. They cannot 'know' how to do like 'save' an another way or what really happen then someone press 'Save'. Do You know?
