how to remove green triangle at the left top corner of cell containing a number

Recently i have copied data from IBM symphony to MS Excel. The data has copied into MS Excel worksheet but i am not able to apply VLOOKUP() formulae to lookup number value in cell that has green triangle at the top left corner of the cell that contains the number. Why do we get these graan triangles in the worksheet. What they resemble and how to remove them.

They tell you that the cell is formatted as text despite appearing to contain a number. Selecting a cell and recommitting the value can sort the problem, or using 'Text to Columns' to convert the range into a single column can provide a shortcut to convert a column at one step.
