how to make data validation from another workbook?

i have two workbook in D drive path is as follows:

D:x.xlsx [have data in sheet1 range(A2:A15)]

D:y.xlsx


i want to make data validation in y.xlsx sheet1 range("A2:A15") from the source of D:x.xlsxsheet1!$A$2:$A$15


is it possible to make data validation if the source list is in another workbook of same drive in computer....


Any help will be much appreciated...

i did it but is there any way for do it becoz it says i have to make open the source file whenever i want to use the validation....?

I'd suggest using some extra cells somewhere that link to the external workbook, and then have the Data Validation based off of those cells.
