How to lock all unused cells ?

Member
I have some data in a worksheet, where the data will only be present only certain cells (i.e A1:E10, F25:J40, S1:S80, O30:O35) and the remaining area will be kind of template. Except the given range, I wanted to lock all other cells.

How can I do that? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

1) Select those Your 'certain cells'.
2) Press ex Ctrl+1 (goes to Format Cells)
3) Go to 'Protection'-tab
4) 'Unmark' Locked
5) Press [OK]
6) Do Protect Sheet (ex Tool->Protection->Protect Sheet...
7) Do needed and press [OK]

@vletm, just need a clarification. I see two options while protecting the sheet (Select locked cells and Select unlocked cells). Do i need to select those two ? or any one? Could you explain me the difference between the two?

A cell can be 'locked' or 'unlocked'.
If You would like to SELECT 'locked' cells then use that option.
If You would like to SELECT 'unlocked' cells then use that option.
( ... also if You would like to edit/modify those cells. )
If You won't select any of those
... then You cannot SELECT any cells ( also cannot edit/modify).
