How to calculate Median in the Pivot Table

Hi Chandoo,

I have been following ur website and blog quite sometime.I found it very very useful.I am very much thankful to you.


I need some help from you. I have set of data with customer and customer id. i am able to calculate Mean and Standard deviation,can you pls help me in coming out of the median formula using the pivot table.

I am not quite sure why you do not use the median fuction on your raw data table before making a pivot table.Unfortunately pivot tables do not have the functionality to compute median values.


Can you upload some data, if you are not sure how perhaps you could open a Dropbox account upload your workbook and post the public link here.

Thanks for the reply.


Basically i have 50-60 customers and minimum 20 customer id's asssociated with each customers. hence i had used pivot table to analyse the data.And i need medians for each customer. Sorry, i am not sure how would Median function would help in my raw table before making a pivot.
