How do I return a specific value?

I need to know which formula to use to make excel return a value based on what cell is "checked off" by entering an X for a survey question.

For instance, on the form I am creating, I want the enduser to be able to enter an X in cell A1, B1 or C1. (Doing so indicates how satisfied they were with our product). In cell D1, I want the assigned value to populate. So for instance, if the enduser puts an x in B1, I want a "2" to populate in D1. (A1=3 points, B1= 2 points, and C1=1 point)

I already tried using an IF formula but this doesn't work because I am using 3 different cells for the evaluation process. Please help!!
