How do I change a file extension

I'm trying to change a file extension in excel 2010 to a zip. When. Click on properties I do not have any option at all to change it. Hiw do I change the file extension!

Thanks

Hi, Jack-P-Winner!
From Windows Explorer, command prompt, as usual.
Now if from VBA code, check the Name instruction. And what properties are you talking about?
Regards!

I know I'm tired running off low batteries Windows explorer command prompt. Please walk me through thus. I used to be bake to go to the desktop and right click then change. Thanks sir

Hi, Jack-P-Winner!
What are you trying to do, from where? Step by step, please.
Regards!

I'm still trying to Unprotect my excel sheets in my books. I've got only 20% unprotected. I read an article that said if I can can change the xlsx to a zip file. Then go to the zip file and convert to html I can take out the password that's in the code

I read all of this sir but seems like a lot of things to do and I'm not really sure what thus guy did to fx his issue. UG

I just purchased elcomsoft pro. When I run any of my files it says archive corrupt or no encrypted file. What a waste of money or I'm doing something wrong

Okay, so how can I change the extension? The wired thing us my files do not have an extension after any of them. Don't get it. They just say excel work sheet but when I open them it says the extension as it's opening

Hi Jack,

I do not have a computer so I cannot test, but I think you can change the extension through Rename.

I tried that route on your file before but, the encryption on your files was different from that on normal protected files and coils not crack it.

But try anyway

Cheers

Kanti

Hey there Kanti. I just did find a way and In The process of copying my books as I type you this. I figured out a way to manipulate the macros so I can bypass the password temporarily , then copy all the sheets to a new book Once they copied there wad no password on them since it was disabled lol. Process of elimination and trial and error. I had to repair my office several times in the process but I tb I think this will work. I've copied two books so far. Will let you know how it turns out.

Hi, Jack-P-Winner!
Have you checked that your Windows Explorer is set up to display file extensions for known file types? Open it, click on Organize at top left, Folder and Search Options, View tab, and make sure that Hide File Extensions For Known File Types is unchecked, then Accept.
Regards!

okay, I converted my xlsx file to a zip and I know I can delete part of the code to get rid of the pass word to unprotect my sheets. Can someone tell me how much of it I delete? I tried different areas and it either comes up corrupt or will not open. Thanks

I'm also curious. When you run a third party password removal program; can you corrupt your files? I can take a back up clean copy. Open it and it will say its corrupt Do I have a virus? I don't get it

Jack-P-Winner

I think you are getting yourself into a bit of a mess with this problem, just altering the file extension will not convert a excel workbook into the desired product such as a zip file, all a zip does is compress the file. You need to use the zip program, then converting it to an HTLM will not do as you want!

Have a look at this link

Uploading the file will be helpful.

No, password removal programs just test by brute force of by other methods all the possible passwords to find out which one(s) would work.
Yes, it's probable that you have a(few) virus(es). Run an online scan.

Hi, old dog!
Good afternoon.
I downloaded the file but it seems to deal only with worksheets protection but not with VBA protection.
Gone to the main link:
http://helpkeyconsultants.jimdo.com/excel/
and in the Advanced section, 7. How to bypass protection, it ends in the same youtube link, same video and same download link.
Regards!

I have tried this and let it run for a day. So far all the ones I have tried My older files it worked great. My new ones it ran for almost a day and I stopped it. It actually acts like its protected in a different way. Is that possible? I know I was hacked hard. From dropbox where I passed files back and forth. They worked fine until I upgraded from to 2010 to 2013 office. I know, it makes no sense

Thanks to all especially sir for helping me try to crack my sheets protection. As of last night they are ALL unprotected simply by going into the Macro and unlocking them them copy and paste to a new sheet Then lock them back to prevent corruption

Hi, Jack-P-Winner!
Bravo! At last you succeeded. Now 4 recommendations:
1) I strongly suggest you to download a few (better all) of your workbooks on another machine with the same OS & Excel versions and check if they work fine there.
2) If I were you I'd backup, format and install again my actual machine, I know it's a new installation but...
3) I'd seriously be thinking in buying some sort of software/add-in/whatsoever to admin passwords for the whole bunch of workbooks (I don't know any since I don't protect massively my workbooks)
4) At last but not least, you'd set up the firewall with strong clauses to avoid someone entering surrepititiously again in your machine (that of ESET Internet Security 7 works fine).
Regards!

All great advice Sir. Format already done. Did that this morning and have 3 backed up zip sticks in my gun safe. Will fo your additional suggestions also. Thanks and like I said a few days ago. I do not forget those that have helped me along the way (-:
