Hidden and Empty Cells Charting Question

I had an interesting thing happen recently. I did some charting in Excel 2007, and the empty cells were showing as zero values, so I went into the "hidden and empty cells" area of the "Select Data" dialog box, and changed the empty cells to show as gaps. It works fine on my screen, but when my supervisor pulled up the same (networked) file on her screen, the empty cells are back to showing as zeros. Is this REALLY a local setting??

I am also imagining that the underlying file for this data was probably created in Excel 2003, if that makes a difference...maybe a legacy issue for old data files?

Thanks in advance for any insights!

It is not a local setting. Have you been able to duplicate the problem on any other machines? Are the cells really empty, or are they formulas evaluating to ""?

If you can't find the source of problem, one work around would be to have the empty cells evaluate to the #N/A error. E.g., =IF(True,MyData,NA())
Charts will automatically skip over the NA error.

Thanks for the reply, Luke. After reading your post, we looked at the data on a few other machines, and the charts look as they should....so I think we have a problem with one machine! Maybe a reload/repair of Excel is in order??? I wish we had the budget to upgrade to the current Excel version. Unfortunately I work for a school district, and funds are scarce for such things.

Thanks for the help!

Well, at least the problem seems to be limited in the number of machines it affects. Hope you find a good solution. :)
