Dear Friends,

I am new to this Forum. Expecting some excel help from you.

I wanted to convert data format from one column to another column.

For example:

column A column B
dec-13 12-13
mar-14 3-14
aug-12 8-12

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Viki

Welcome to the forum!
Few questions
  1. Is the data in col A truly just a simple text string, saying "dec 13" or is is actually a date (may need to look in formula bar to confirm.
  2. If col A is a date, we don't need a formula, could just change the formatting in col A. Is that preferred?
  3. Are the numbers years or days?
If A is a date, in col B:
=A2
Format col B with custom format:
m-yy
or
m-dd (if they are days)

If you don't want a formula, just change the formatting of col A.

If A is just text, then formula in col B, and numbers are days:
=TEXT(DATEVALUE(A2),"m-dd")
if numbers are years:
=TEXT(DATEVALUE("1-" & A2),"m-yy")
