Formulas display as actual formula syntax and not the results

Hi All,

Often times when I export data from an application to an Excel sheet and go to enter formulas in the sheet it never calculates the formulas but rather displays the formula itself.

I try toggling the "Display Formulas" option and it makes no difference. I ultimately have to copy and past the data out of the sheet into another one to get it to work.

Is this a security thing that occurs on exported data? It is annoying.

Any thoughts on what causes it and what I can do to overcome it? Using Excel 2007.

Thanks in advance!

Jason

Hi, usmanhere!

Thank you very much for your kind comments.

I'll try to help you, of course. But next time please consider opening a new topic if your issue isn't related to the original one. This will help a lot specially beginner users.

I understand you meant Excel worksheet where you stated DB. If so, check this file:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/60558749/Formulas%20display%20as%20actual%20formula%20syntax%20and%20not%20the%20results%20%28for%20usmanhere%20at%20chandoo.org%29.xlsm

It has two buttons, one for locking, another for unlocking.

It has all it cells except row 1 unprotected and it conditionally formats the whole sheet to light blue protected rows. Please check if formula for CF works proper in US english Excel versions, I use it in spanish and the formula is:

=CELDA("proteger";A1) -----> in english: =CELL("protect",A1)

But I don't know if Excel translates this constants, if not then adjust them properly.

Regards!
