Formula to find the oldest date based on a given criteria

Good Morning All,

I have 2 columns in sheet1. One has list of states and the other has the dates. Now on the sheet2 i want to add a formula which will pull the oldest date in the 2nd column of sheet 1 based on the state which I select. For example: I want the oldest date of the state "CO". I tried using
=IF(Sheet1!A:A="CO",MIN(Sheet1!B:B)) formula. But it is not working.

It would be great if someone could help me with this...

Thanks in advance :)

Dear sn152,

MIN/MAX IF is a array formula.

=MIN(IF(Sheet1!A:A="CO",Sheet1!B:B))

Not Just Enter Press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to array-enter the formula.
