Excel Hyperlink

I have a montly excel file that I need to link to a monthly pdf file (stored on my network drive). So for the January excel file, I have linked to January's pdf file. However, for February, if I just change the path's name that from January to February, it doesn't pick up the February's pdf file. Is this possible to achieve without having to recreate this link every month? Thanks.

Hi ,

Can you be more specific , and give the exact formula you are using to link the monthly Excel file to the monthly pdf file ?

Hi, Natty!

As a new user you might want to (I'd say should and must) read this:

And regarding your issue, consider uploading a sample file(s) (including manual examples of desired output if applicable), it'd be very useful for those who read this and might be able to help you, relieving the contributor of having to build a test file, if necessary. Thank you.

Regards!

Thanks Narayan..so this is it. I have inserted a hyperlink in my Jan.bankrec (excel file) to the Jan.Bankstmt (pdf file on my network drive E:). This path is shown in my excel cell where I inserted the link...E:\Jan.Bankstmt.pdf. Now, for the month of Feb, I inserted a new tab in my excel workbook and created a copy of Jan and named it Feb. I went into the cell that has the hyperlink and changed Jan.Bankstmt.pdf to Feb.Bankstmt.pdf but it still opens up the Jan.Bankstmt. Do I have to go thru the same steps I did to insert Jan.Bankstmt to link the Feb.Bankstmt? I was trying to avoid that by just editing the hyperlink path but it doesn't seem to work. Thanks.

Hi ,

When you insert a hyperlink , there are two parts to the action that Excel takes :

1. It stores the text that is to be displayed in the cell where you have inserted the hyperlink

2. It creates a hyperlink to the required URL , disk file , place within the Excel workbook ,....

When you now go and change the text that is displayed , only the first part gets modified ; you need to use the Edit Hyperlink option to actually change the reference that the earlier hyperlink was pointing to.

Hi, Natty!

Give a look at the uploaded file. There you'll find a formula in column E that links to the monthly filename as required:
E2: =HIPERVINCULO(D$2&B2&"."&C$2;"Link to "&B2&" PDF file") -----> in english: =HYPERLINK(D$2&B2&"."&C$2,"Link to "&B2&" PDF file")
where B2 holds "Jan", C2 "Bankstmt.pdf" and E2 "E:\".

Just advise if any issue.

Regards!
