Can anyone tell me whether or not it’s possible to calculate “% of Parent Row Total” in Excel 2007 pivot tables? “% of Parent Row Total” was introduced in MS Excel 2010. I have clients with Excel 2007 on their workstation(s) that are unable to view this calculation in reports that I’ve developed using Excel 2010.

I don't want to move row labels in the pivot table. I'm required to maintain measures, such as "% of Parent Row Total", in columns.

I appreciate any feedback or workarounds my fellow Excel users can provide.

I think you have the answer, many things are not backward compatable.

Try viewing a pivot in 2003.Create a dashboard in 2013 and send to those with 2003.

Hi Excel Ninja,

would you please give a example , how do I view it in excel 2003? You mean save the excel sheet in 2003? Because I tried and when they opened it in 2007 excel, numbers under total changed again.

Thanks again,

Birinder

The point I was making is that there are many things that are not backward compatible, something that was introduced in 2010 may not work in earlier editions as you have found out, if you are doing a lot of work for others with older versions of Excel, then the easiest way is to do the work in that edition of find out the updates that do not work in that edition and don't use them.
If you work in 2010 but save as an earlier edition then you will get a warning about compatibility and this will help you identify those parts of the latest addition you cannot use.

Thanks Mr Excel. But is there a way I can manually write the formula in excel 2007 that calculates (value for the item) / (value for the parent item of the selected Base field)
