Excel 2010 - Linked Workbooks

I've got a problem with linked spreadsheets having to be open for my formulas to work, I'm clicking no to "Do you want to update" but it seems that it still needs the source workbook open as its just coming up with #VALUES, I've never had this problem with older versions of Excel is this a known bug? Is there a workaround that anyone knows about please?

Also, I'd rather not have to change the formulas, if there's a registry fix, that will be better
