dynamic charting of dates

I am trying to convert daily hour charging into months(sometimes data goes over into different years, like December then to January) how can i have excel automatically know if there are hours charged in a certain range to automatically include all months and appropriate years? i have used the formula =text(A1,"MMM") and text(a1,"YYY") to give me the chart format. I also do not want unwanted months to show in my dynamic chart. suggestions?

Could you give us some more samples of what your data looks like currently, what you want it too look like, and/or chart ideas? This will help us know better what you mean by "dynamic chart" and "convert hours into months".
