Doubt in Vlookup function

Hi

Generally In below mentioned formulation looks up the value of 38 in column A and then its display the corresponded value in column3 but, i want to define the column instead of column A
=VLOOKUP(38, A2:C10, 3, TRUE)

Example:

Name age State
Anbu 27 TN
Hello 12 UP
Chandoo 35 AP
Info 50 KL

=VLOOKUP(12, A2:C5, 1, TRUE)Expected Answer is: "Hello"

Hi Selvam ,

VLOOKUP is not meant to do this , unless you use a roundabout method ; the easier way is to use the INDEX / MATCH combination , as in :

=INDEX(A2:A5,MATCH(12,B2:B5,0))

will return Hello.
