Is it possible that when some emails a workbook to someone because they cannot upload that the work book is uploaded so that we can all learn

Good evening bobhc..

Do you mean to say that every member of this forum should have that workbook in order to learn the same?

If yes, then I completely agree with you that we can think of having such feature in this forum in order to learn and share more :)in case a person can not upload the file:))

But it's all depends on our key master CHANDOO...

What do you think Chandoo?? Is it possible???

Regards,

Kaushik

Yes, it is one thing to read a formula but I think it helps if you can use the formula in the workbook that has the problem, I do this will uploaded workbooks to get a better understanding and if problems are emailed to others then we are looking with one eye closed

Perhaps Chandoo could have an open email address so those who cannot upload to Dropbox can post and all who are registered can view

Hi, b(ut)ob(ut)hc, kaushik03!

Good afternoon BA time for you.

Despite the badge of Excel Ninja or Member (not Key Master because we have not been given the AmEx Black yet), I'll speak as a member.

Chandoo's website doesn't support file transfers so uploading or downloading workbooks or other related files is tied to the will of each person.

People may be willing to upload/download a file but perhaps their actual site's firewall policies don't allow them to do that (e.g., Luke M has no access to sharing files website, so he's restricted to read any uploaded file and he can't neither upload the solutions... noted that he always posts the code?).

Other people don't want to post their files so publicly and prefer to send them by mails to certain members. In this case, I think that the decision of each person should be respected and if someone accepts to being emailed a file, he shouldn't upload it too unless the owner lets that.

In my case I actually prefer to answer posts without file transfers involved unless it's harder to write down all formula, procedures and guidelines, or if requesters can't access shared files. If creating a solution workbook for a described problem (no original file), I always upload it publicly, even if I email it due to user's firewall policies. Now if I received a workbook by mail, I wouldn't upload it unless the user asks or allows me to do that.

In this case its will should be respected even the community is deprived of access to the solution, it's up to each one of us to answer or not topics where users sets those constraints. Despite of that I always upload a clean of sensitive data and harmless file if any other member asks something about the solution.

What I personally dislike is actions like directly and firstly asking a user to email the file with the issue instead of asking him/her to upload it firstly, and if disabled then yes enable email path. Regarding this in my beginning here I sent twice or so my email when people asked it to me, but then I changed my mind and ask them to send their emails so as to get back to them: I believe it's more fair posting our email address than requiring other ones. Please read this comment, and the whole topic if you want to:

PS: BTW, why do you make write so much?

Good evening SirJB7

There are some that do not wish to publicly post their work and I respect that. The reason I suggested an open Chandoo email was for those who would like to upload but are unable to due to restrictions places on their machine and network.

PS do not understand the meaning of " why do you make write so much? "

Hi, b(ut)ob(ut)hc!

I just edited my previous comment, adding last paragraph.

I know that it would be a great feature, but malhereusement this site doesn't provide such a feature, which I think it's hard and resource consuming to implement: you have to destinate server space for storage (more bandwith, remember migration many months ago?), designate human resources to send requested files or develope software to do that,...

About what you didn't understand: I don't understand what you didn't understand, I was just reading other simple and easy topics when I stepped into this one, then I see who was the guy who started it, and well, he deserves to know my opinion... and that's what and why he makes me write so much... now gotcha?

Regards!

If your good self and others did not write so much then I and others would not learn so much
