countifs and structured table reference question

Hi all, any assistance is appreciated. Is it possible to take the field name of a structured table and use it as a criteria in a countifs statement? e.g. if i have the field name "cereal" in cell A1, is something like =countifs(table1"["&A1&"]","cocopops") possible (i tried this, but it didnt work :S) . i would like to dynamically change the field name to (in this example) sometimes count cereals and sometimes beverages in the one formula.
