Conditional Locking option in excel ?

Hi,

I am working on large data in excel with some rows being Formula oriented, and two to three associates are working on same file to update it regularly.I want to lock the previous entered data in the same sheet while giving then access to add new data.

Looking forward to get some way out.

is it possible in Excel 2007 ?

Thank you

Sunita

What do you mean exactly by "lock"?

If you just want to prevent further data entry, once trick is to use Data validation with a custom rule like:

=ISBLANK(B2)

In that example, if B2 is filled in, you won't be able to change the cell that has this validation.

Hi,

Thanks for reply,

I want to know if I can protect the previous data, while updating the same sheet regularly. for eg, all entry as on today should be locked for editing, and further data can be inserted in new rows or columns in new dates.

I hope I am clear this time.

Thank you

Sunita

The only way I think this can be accomplished would be to use an event macro that automatically changes the protection status of cells as users go along. If this is allowable, there's plenty of solutions you can find online. You might start by looking here:
