conditional IF Then in formula

I'm trying to determine when, how and where I spend money. I created a spread sheet that has the date, where, how much, and how I paid for something. Now I want to determine how much I spend with cash, my cc or debit. example: If column C has "cash", column B has $10.00, I want to add that $10 to column H. IF column C has "CC" it column H is blank or gets a zero, IF column C has "DBT", column H receives a 0 or is left blank. Column I will have the amount spent with "CC" and Column J will have the "DBT"

How do I write such an IF THEN formula. Thank you. rd

i think he was describing both CC and DBT would show in the same column....

@rd Erickson: you could also do a total cash / CC sum instead of pulling them out individually and then totally them up.

=SUMIF(C2:C8,$L$1,B2:B8)
C2:c8 is the range containing the "Cash, CC, DBT" values, L1 is just the cell where entered "Cash" (this formula is in L2) and B2:B8 contains the values that i want to add when Cash is found.
you coudl then setup the same for CC and for DBT, just change the Middle value ($L$1)
