Hi Excelites

I love this Excel. Just joined the forum.

need your advice. what career can I take after excel. I have been working in Excel past 3 to 4 years. it has been very interesting and absolutely love the adventure it gave me. Now, I feel to do more with the Data. Thus, on a cross road again!!

Which field do you guys think I can take, maybe in IT, which would be highly rewarding salary wise. Love playing with the data.

Please advise.

Hi Karthik ,

My opinion is that IT still does not take Excel expertise very seriously. Of course , that depends on the IT organization within a company , but if the organization is more than an SME , I think this is true.

If you wish to become a Data Analyst or a Business Intelligence specialist , I think you need to know a lot of the business environment you will be working in. Just Excel expertise will not do. You can browse through the advertisements for Business Analysts , and see what kind of expertise is expected.

Thus , if your basic educational background is in Statistics , see how you can leverage this knowledge ; if you wish to join an Insurance company , you need to know about Actuarial Statistics , not just Excel formulae.

The basic requirement would be an advanced level of knowledge in PivotTables , Charting including some of the more esoteric types , What-If analysis , Solver , Goal Seek apart from the standard functions.
