Can anyone please recommend me few good forums related to computer maintenance.

I am facing some system issues from last few days, before giving my PC for

repairing I want to learn few things about it.


So that I can at least understand what problem the technician is referring to & not giving usual answer such as “Need to format the PC”.


P.S. This is common practice where I live, the 1st thing they will do is format the PC.


Mod - I posted it in the lounge section, do not know how this landed here.
 
Hi Kuldeep, the system is very slow & if I open multiple applications it gets hang quickly.

It also takes around 3-5 minutes to initialize. Another problem is the exhaust fan makes a lot of noise.

P S. - I have anti-virus on my machine.
 
If the fan is making a lot of noise and the computer is a few years old the bearing ends of the fan motor could be worn. most fans at the lower cots range do not have true bearings and wear quite quickly not sure where you are based but I have replaced fans with true bearings at a cost of a few pounds (£3)and 10 minuets of time, this could be a reason for multi apps freezing and the slow system as the chip is getting to hot
 
Yes you are right, I think I need to replace the fan. It will cost me around 2 GBP.

Schinbizboy Not trying to tell you how to shell eggs.........but one of the fans that fail soonest is the case fan the easiest way to tell if this is the case ,I do do this,is to take a pencil and just put it in to the fan blades, the fan is not powerful enough to cause damage to itself or the pencil and if the noise stops then you know that is the one to change if it does not then change the other, DO NOT LEAVE THE PENCIL IN THE FAN FOR MORE THEN A FEW SECONDS

Although before suggesting....we need to know the few thing like system configuration/ software versions installed/ internet usage per day / time when last formatted you PC.


But inspite of asking these you should try


1) http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/


Downlode and clean your system for Junk files / any registry issues etc. you can opt to uninstall few of program not being used.


2) Search for "speedfan" in Google and look for any heating issue on motherboard / processors. Any abnormal hike in temp will slow down performance. Each processed have its temp range defined and some time dust/humidity make it difficult for fan to cool the processor to required temperature.


3) Third make sure that pagefile.sys is also defragmentaed along with your drives. Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageDefrag for details and http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/defragment-your-system-files-pagefile-and-registry-in-windows-xp/ for usage.

One more information...While you will run defregment pagefile.sys...first time it may take time as long as 30-45 minutes. you can configure it for every boot up.
