Calculate Golf Couse Handicap Holes

Hi: Is there a formula anywhere that would calculate golf course handicap holes of a course that is not rated or handicapped?

Our group play a course in Florida, but due to it not been rated there is no way to play any game that involves handicaps and the range of golfers abilities is quite substancial.

I can do a few basic things with Excel like minimums, maximumums, adding a columns etc. but not a lot of formulas. If I see a formula I can usually figure out how to use it.

I use Microsoft 2000 version as I like the layout of the spreadsheet so obviously I can not open up a .xlsx spreadsheet.

Any help would be greatly appreciated by us old folks.

Thx in advance for anyones help and time.

How would you do this if you had to do it manually. Give us your criteria for calculation and we can convert it to an Excel Spreadsheet.

A rated golf course has two scores that are input to the handicap calculation:
  • The rating, which is the score that a scratch (handicap 0) golfer would score on a good round. For an easy golf course this will be lower than the actual par score, so if the par is for example 72 the course rating can be 68.9.
  • The slope rating, a measurement for difficulty for bogey golfers (handicap 18) compared to the course rating.
An actual course rating is done by a professional and involves scoring the course on more than 460 points for each set of tees, this cannot be substituted by a formula because it involves scoring the difficulty based on the actual layout of the golf course.

If the course plays average compared to other courses, I would suggest to take the actual par as course rating and a slope rating of 113. This can then be used as input to calculate the course handicap for each of the players.
