Best strategy - Pivot tables or Lookup functions???

Hi,

I have a table that consists of columns with monthly costs for specific products in each row.

Example:

Jan 2010 Feb 2010 .... Dec 2012 (each month there will be a new column added.

Prod 1 $152 $149 $127

Prod 2 $322 $354 $367

So let us say that I would like to be able to compare January 2010 with January 2012 for Product 1, or the first quarter of 2011 with the first quarter of 2012 for Product 2. What would be the best Excel strategy for this problem?

The Product-names are unique, and do not change. The only thing that really change is that every month a new column is added for this partucular month with the costs for every product for that month.

Good day DAWO

With pivot tables you can compare any data, you can use slicers and charts you can edit/view the data as you wish.

Thank you so much, bobhc! I will go straight to the tutorial section for a crash course in Pivot Tables then! ;-)
