Auditing VBA App

I've inheirited a Excel VBA app with mulitiple userforms for input. It was developed ovefseas, and my task is to understand how it works and recommend improvements. Are there any suggestions as to what process to follow first? I am fairly new to VBA and there is little documentation in the app.
