Annual vendor dollar comparison

Kristi Waski

New Member
I have a large amount of data that I am trying to compare. Each row contains a different vendor, dollar amount and year starting with 2015 through 2017. I need to see and compare the dollar amounts spent each year, but only if there was activity in 2017. I attached an abbreviated example, there are well over 10,000 rows in actual document and 50 columns. The rows I colored in the example pivot are what I am looking to eliminate. Thanks in advance.

I need to head out to a Board Meeting, but do you have access to Power Query?(or Get & Transform Data, depending on which version of Excel you're using)

If so, i think that will be your best bet - I'll be gone for a few hours, but others will come online shortly as the sun rises in the East and they'll be able to help you, no doubt.

Narayan, Kristi, a variation (no helper column) of the solution from the same source which worked in Excel 2010. Select the single cell I5 directly to the right of the 2017 header. Apply an Autofilter. Unselect the blanks in the 2017 drop down.
With Kristi's file, two Autofilter drpodowns appear to the right of the pivot table, but had there been nothing at all in those columns next to pivot table, the autofilter would have restricted itself only to the pivot table columns!

WOW! You are all amazing! I spent an entire day trying to figure this one out and it literally took me less than five minutes once you explained it. I love learning new things about Excel. Thank you very much for your help. It worked perfectly.
