A complete (linked) copy of a workbook

Hi

I have a workbook, full of data and lots of formulas and dynamic charts. What I would like to do is have another 'carbon copy' of this workbook saved in another location which is updated each time the "master" is.

I know I could link each cell to the "master", but as there is a large amount of cells to link, I was wondering if there was a quicker, simpler way of doing it?

Thank you

Hi Dave ,

Since a save is a time-consuming operation , can you not save only when ever the master is saved ? Suppose a change is made in the master , and then an undo operation is made ; effectively nothing has changed , but this can result in the carbon-copy getting saved twice.

If this is OK with you , then the Workbook_BeforeSave event procedure can be used to save to the carbon-copy.

Thanks Narayan,

Both workbooks are going to be shared workbooks and there will be multiple users in each for viewing purposes mainly.

If I am using the Workbook_BeforeSave event procedure, are you suggesting, save over the 'carbon-copy' workbook, in effect replacing the file?

Hi Dave ,

If there are multiple users , and there is a possibility that the file can be updated by more than one user at a time , then even the BeforeSave event procedure is not of much use , since a user may make several changes over a period of time before deciding to save changes.

If you really want to have multiple users make changes , then having two copies of the same workbook is not the way to go. Check this link for more info on sharing and collaboration :

You can also try Google Docs , as mentioned here :
