I have an exciting announcement to share with you. My first ever print book – Dashboards for Excel, co-authored with Jordan Goldmeier is releasing on 15th September.

Dashboards for Excel – what is it?

As the name suggests this book is a handy guide for anyone preparing dashboards, management reports and business intelligence workbooks using Excel. The key benefits are,

  • Learn the visualization tools, charts, tables, and graphs important to management.
  • Understand what management doesn’t want to see in a report
  • Turn around dashboards faster and cheaper than ever before
  • Understand the key role dashboards play in an organization
  • Analyze real-world dashboards to apply important features to your own organization
  • Utilize understated, but powerful, Excel formulas and VBA code
  • Avoid common pitfalls in Excel development and dashboard creation
  • Get started with the Excel data model, PowerPivot, and Power Query

As you can see, this is an advanced Excel book with lots of examples, case studies and practical tips.

How it all began?

Jordan announced this book almost 3 years back. I felt very curious about the book and made a mental note to buy a copy once it is published. Fast forward 2 years, on 4th of September, 2014, I got an email from Jordan asking if I can collaborate on the book project. I immediately said yes. We got in to a skype call with Jim, Editor at Apress (the company that is publishing Dashboards for Excel book) to finalize the project specifics. We decided that I should write 4 chapters, talking about new features in Excel 2013 & Power BI that help you make awesome dashboards.

I spent almost 8 months writing those 4 chapters. Mainly because I got serious writers block for 4 of those 8 months and was traveling for another 2 months. Finally in August this year, we moved the book to final stages of editing and now the book is ready for you.

Buy the book now to get free bonus video on Dashboards

We (Jordan & I) are preparing a 1 hour video with our favorite dashboard tips. If you purchase the book now (or anytime before end of September 2015), you will get a copy of that video.

How to qualify for this offer:

  • Simple. Purchase a copy of the book form Amazon (you may buy it from your favorite book store too, but it may take a while for the stocks to be ready)
  • Email a copy of the purchase receipt to dashboard.book@chandoo.org
  • We will send a link to watch the bonus video (will be available in first week of October)

You can buy either print or eBook versions to qualify for this offer.

letter grades from test scores in Excel

How to convert test scores to letter grades in Excel?

We can use Excel’s LOOKUP function to quickly convert exam or test scores to letter grades like A+ or F. In this article, let me explain the process and necessary formulas. I will also share a technique to calculate letter grades from test scores using percentiles.

Hi Chandoo - is Kindle edition in plans?
    Thanks

    • Chandoo says:

Yes, digital version should be available thru Amazon on 15th onwards.

      • Patrick says:

Ordered your book on Amazon, but no delivery date scheduled. Called local Barnes & Noble and they have in their computer a release date of November 18th.

Is there a delay in the release? If so, will it affect Amazon fulfillment orders? I am looking forward to the read.

    • Vetrina Proctor says:

      Hi Chandoo,

I have my book and digital version. Where can I find the link for chapter files?

  2. Janardan says:

    Ravi.

    Chandoo,

Congrats! You are continuing to amaze me with the amount of content you are producing at such frequent intervals.

I just checked the book on Amazon.in; its not available yet. So, I will wait for the Indian version to be available.

    Keep up the great work.

    Regards

    • Herbert says:

      Hi Chandoo,

Indeed congratulations are in place. It is indeed amazing what you can perform.

I also checked the book on Amazon. Amazon mentions November 18, 2015 as the publish date of the book.

I will wait until it is available before I place the order.

Please keep writing. I keep expanding my knowledge of Excel when reading and practicing the stuff you write.

      Regards,

  6. We had to check with the publisher on that one. November 18th was the default set behind the scenes, but it's not the official release date. The release date will update on Amazon a day or two after the book goes to print, which is tentatively scheduled to take place around 9/13.

  7. By the way, if anyone is interested in self publishing their own book and already has a good start on the manuscript, Chris Nelson (who Chandoo mentions as "Chris" above) is a phenomenal developmental and copy editor. I can't recommend him highly enough. Reach out to me if you'd like an introduction.

  8. David Evans says:

    Chandoo -

    Ordered!
Anything Chandoo can do, I can do nearly as well with the help of his book!

Good luck with your latest venture!

  10. ANAND says:

    Dear Chandoo

    Hearriest Congratulations !

  11. Nicola Pantry says:

Many congratulations Chandoo... I look forward to getting a copy when it's released!

  12. David Henderson says:

Wow(!), apparently it's going to have 750 pages of information. Can't wait to get hold of this!

    • 750 pages is from the original outline three years ago. The system won't update until the book is published. But just to temper expectations, the book is only 550 pages. This is a good thing though: we focus on what's important to help you make dashboards right away instead of spending time on Excel features nobody uses. Also it will be easier to hold!

  13. Hiren Patel says:

    Congrats for launching book...

  14. amit says:

    Congratulations sir....
is Vlookup book is in hard copy format ??

  15. Emmanuel Millan says:

    Congratulations!

It's possible to get the free bonus video on Dashboards at this moment considering the unexpected delay with the publisher?

  16. Punit says:

The book refers to chapter files in quite a few instances . How do we get access to that
