Wild Card not working directly

Hi All,

Today I came up with a new problem I usually use wildcards for advance filter/find/replace/countif/vlookup but today I used it directly to check whether cell contains "DON*" or not but it didn't work.

VALUE IN cell: DONE
IN another cell: =cell="DON*"

I don't believe that you can use wildcards directly as you are trying
As soon as you place a " around it it will become text

Hui Sir, Thanks for reverting my concern but sir I we also use it in same way for countifs/vlookup it works there fine.

so just for curiosity why it is not working here

Because there are a number of inconsistencies in how things are done in different parts of Excel.
Unfortunately this is one of them
