Trying to conditionally format an add in chart. Can I do that?

I am trying to format a chart that I built with Mapland from a table I built.

What I am doing is making a spreadsheet where I have multiple locations in different parts of the US and figuring grain yields. I have location, 2009 yld, projected 2010 yld, record yld and year of record yld. I then add text boxes into the specific state drawing on the chart and want to format the state map area according to if it is Less then last year, same as last year, more then last year and finally equal to or greater then the record. Right now I have to go format each section myself manually. Is there a way I can conditionally format each map location and have it do that automatically? I have 2010 Microsoft Office. I know when I select a part of the map, the conditional formating button is greyed out so maybe it's not possible, but figured I could find out here.

Thank you in advance for the help.

By naming the shapes you can use some techniques to change their color or replace them with the same shape with a Different color
