To populate the number of occurrence in a column based on values in another column

Hi All,
Is there a way to populate column E with the occurrence of the value in column B as per the below screenshot (i.e. 1st occurrence, 2nd occurrence and so on)

In E2 copied down:

=COUNTIF(B$2:B2,B2)

Yes, this is working correctly.
I even used the formula '=IF(B2=B1,E1+1,1)' in the meanwhile, it gave the same result.

However, my version will still work if the items are out of order, but yours won't, so it would be better long-term to use mine.
