Protected worksheet can't use data validation?

Hello, I've been working on a dashboard that has a few drop-downs, option buttons and scroll bars. I would like to protect the sheet so that the users don't mess with it, but once the sheet is protected, it won't allow you to select the dropdown options. Any suggestions?

You must unlock any cells that take user input. So, if cell A1 is where the data validation dropdown is, select it, press CTRL+1, from protection tab, uncheck "locked" option.


Now, while protecting the worksheet, enable "edit unlocked cells" option
