Protect a Sheet

Hi folks,

I've got a data table on 'Sheet1' with an AutoFilter. I protected the sheet. When I protected it. I enabled users to sort, and I also enabled AutoFilter. (These are simply check boxes in the "Protect Sheet" dialog box.)

After enabling protection, when I choose to sort using the AutoFilter, it produces an error that says that I need to unprotect the sheet. Why?

Thanks

Unfortunately, the Sort option listed there is for doing a regular Data - Sort. Call it a bug, or a Microsoft programmer's oversight. =(

Which version are you using? I'm using 2007 and it doesn't have the same error message. I was able to do what you intended in the first place.

@Luke: I thought so, but then also there's an option to enable users to use AutoFilter, but perhaps the only option available is actually just filtering (instead of the entire AutoFilter action set).

@Fred: Excel 2010. You'd think 2010 would allow this if 2007 does...

Microsoft, I demand answers. : )
