Problem with Excel 2007 to 2003 Converter and Password Error

I have a user that has Office 2003 installed on a Windows XP machine and is

trying to open an Excel 2007 document that is password protected. When you click on Open a prompt will come up asking for a password. When you hit Cancel the message then tells you the converter failed. The workbook structure and individual sheets are the only parts that are protected. So when opening it in 2007, the user should never be prompted to put in a password just to view the sheet(editing they do). The problem as well is this workbook has macros so it is saved as a .xlsm and not a .xlsx. So I cant just save it as a .xls and solve all my problems.

Even more frustrating is this user has been using this file for the last 5 months with NO problems, and now all of a sudden he is getting issue. Any thoughts as to what he may have changed to cause this error? Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Hi Treinhardt,

Even if you have macros the xl file can saved in compatible to 2003 versions by saving the file by selecting save as type "Excel 97 - 2003 Workbook"

This may not address all your problem, but might solve the issue to some extent.

Regards,

Prasad
