Pivot Table filter query

Hi, I was working on an exercise on dashboards on this website which uses a pivot table. I am stuck on why my pivot table is not working. This is a simple pivot with an additional field name from the field list that is filtered but is shown in the pivot. It should take into account the filter but it does not show it in the pivot table. I have attached the file.

Hi ,

I have not understood your problem.

What I found was that there are 3 filters which have been applied :

1. Customer C0002 alone has been selected

2. On the Customer ID there is a value filter of Top 10.

3. On the Representative field R02 alone has been selected.

Hi ,

For a filter to be effective , the field itself has to be selected.

See the uploaded file , where a new pivot table is inserted in the tab Sheet2.

Check and uncheck the Representative checkbox in the field list and see its effect on the pivot table.

Yes, I know you can check the Representative checkbox and that will give the correct answer but on this website it has a pivot table that the representative box is not checked but the result is still 223 and that is why I don't understand how it should work. The spreadsheet was in the Dynamic Dashboard using Excel tutorial in the Chandoo website..

Hi ,

I wouldn't go by what a website says ; is there a downloadable workbook available on the page ? Does the workbook show the same ?

Hi ,

A pivot table is supposed to be governed by the fields that are added to the pivot table ; if a field has not been added to the pivot table , I don't see how it should affect anything on the pivot table. Setting or resetting a filter on a field which is not part of the pivot table should not affect the pivot table.

yes, the workbook shows the same... and I am trying to replicate the results. it is the same data that I posted and I just can't seem to replicate it....so are you saying the field has to be checked in or order for it to work. I just thought it would be handy if you could filter from the field list and not have the name appear in the pivot table.

Hi ,

Now it is clear ; there was a slicer on the field Representative.

If you remove the slicer , it will not work. Try it and see ; as long as the slicer is present it works , when you delete the slicer , you are back to the normal behaviour.

Thank you for clearing that up. It looked so simple on the pivot table alone that it should have worked. Will practice the dashboard in conjunction with the pivot now......thanks heaps....
