Does that mean that I’ll have to unlock it every time I need to make changes?

Yes, you'll need to unlock the cells each time you want to make changes. Alternatively, you can share the sheet as "View Only" to prevent editing altogether....I believe better then converting to pdf and sharing

No that means you just have to unprotect the worksheet …​
