Interactive/Dynamic Chart Reference not valid

Hi all

I've started a new work project and I'm at my wits end trying to finish it. I have read other posts and noticed similar problems, but I can't find out where I've gone wrong! Please keep in mind that when I started this project I was a begininger in Excel, so some terms and pahses maybe lost on me so bare with me when I explain things.

I have followed Chandoo's 'how to create an interactive chart' (found here: http://chandoo.org/wp/2013/04/23/interactive-chart-in-excel-tutorial/) and I get stuck on step 15.

I have made my charts (all 22 of them) using IFSUMS in a table and I need these charts in an interactive chart, however I also need them to update as the tables on the Apr/May/Jun tab get filled in. I have made the charts, select the cells that the charts inhabit and labelled them (chart1, chart 2 etc), I have made a combo box drop down list with the related names (called ChartType), I also have put in the CHOOSE(lined cell, Chart 1, chart2 etc) formula into the linked cell and have been able to select/copy and paste link the charts image to the first tab (where my summary data is) but when it comes to the final step of labeling the charts as =selChart and link the images to the drop down combo box, excel flashes up the dreaded sign 'Reference not valid'...

I've checked my labeling and formula and I still can't find where I've gone wrong.

As I've said I have looked on other forms but when checking my labels and formula it seems ok. I've up loaded the project and if anyone could explain where I have gone wrong I would be grateful.

Many thanks

Hi everyone!

I am working on a similar project following the video for "How to create an interactive chart in Excel - tutorial" and I did as BlueVixen did above and created each chart separately, named the chart type list, added a combo button, used the Name Manager to use the "Choose" formula and when I go to do the last step and re-direct the path that the Picture Link for the chart to "selectedCharts" and I am also getting the "Reference is not valid" error message.

I have gone back over the video a few times and re did the project and I am still getting stuck on this final step. I don't think it's a typo, could I get some assistance before I put my foot through my monitor?

Thank you!

Hi ,

Your monitor is safe. See the attached file. I have done the first 2 charts ; you need to do the remaining 6.
