Hi,
I am trying to import a .txt file (chat history from WhatsApp) into Excel (Microsoft Excel 2013) for data analysis. The attached sample file (test.txt) has 3 rows when viewed in Notepad without 'Word Wrap'. When I import it into Excel using 'File>>Open>>Text Import Wizard', choose 'Delimited', choose 'Delimiters' as 'Other' and use colon as a delimiter, I expect an Excel sheet with 3 rows. Instead I get an Excel sheet where the 2nd line of the .txt gets split into multiple rows :-( and there are empty rows in between them, no idea why this is happening!! See attached .txt and .xlsx files.
How to ensure a single line in .txt (Notepad) imports into a single row in Excel?
PS: the end goal is to analyze a year's worth chat data (4MB) and find interesting insights like see who is most active, who sends longest msgs, who sends most pics/videos etc, imagination is the limit he he he. Feel free to suggest alternate ideas for such analysis.
Thanks,
aks
