Saving macro's in your Personal.xls or Personal.xlsx file allows you to use macros in any file whilst on your PC.

Search for articles about it in the Google Custom Search Box Top Right of this window

Hi! Madhavi,

Adding to Hui's comment..

The Personal.xls file is located in the following,

Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office11/XLSTART

It is supposed to auto start whenever we open excel on the PC ( sometimes it doesnt-then you may have to create a shortcut to this file on your desktop and then click on it to open it manually.

( Does Hui know how to fix that? )

Once Excel is open, if you go to Window on the Menu and Unhide, you can see the Personal.xls blank workbook

Go to Tools/Macros to see all the Macros stored in this file

Make sure you select this Personal.xls as the storage location next time you create a new macro. It helps to keep a backup copy of this file in your backup device-can come in handy!

The location of the XLSTART directory varies depending on the Excel version.

Use the following as a guide, but note that even some of these can vary

Excel 2000 - C:program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOfficeXLStart

Excel XP - C:program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 10XLStart

Excel 2003 - C:program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 11XLStart

Excel 2007 (Vista) - C:program FilesMicrosoft OfficeOffice 12XLStart

Excel 2007 (Win 7) - C:program Files (x86)Microsoft OfficeOffice12XLSTART

Excel 2010 (Win 7) - C:UsersUserNameAppDataRoamingMicrosoftExcelXLSTART
