Grrr!! My cells won't lock!!

Hello,
I've created a spreadsheet where I want certain cells to be password protected and non modifiable, simple, you would think.
Unlock what you want to be able to modify and click protect sheet.
However there is one entire column which I have verified as locked, that simply will not lock no matter what I do.
Can you help?

Can you give some more information?
You've selected the entire column, format cells, protection enabled?
When you protect the worksheet, what all options are you enabling/checking?
After protecting, what happens that tells you that they are "not locked"? Has the protection box become unchecked, or you can still do something to them?

You surely checked that there're no macros (either automatically or manually triggered) run that could change the locked value, didn't you?
