Formula bar font gone crazy

when I look at a formula everything is normal. When I click on the formula the font goes all over the place.

This is what the formula looks like when I click the cell

This is what it looks like when I click the formula bar to edit it. As you can imagine when I have large complex formulas this gets pretty unviewable.
How do I make this appear normally?

Then I can't see the tops of the characters because it's vertically center justified.
I can't even replicate this if I tried. Very bazaar.

I'm sorry this escapes me.Isn't "vertically center justified" a cell format? I did not know the formula bar could be formatted ?

Yes as you can see above 'floor' looks top justified, while the bracket beside it looks bottom justified. Really frustrating that I can't find any reference anywhere to this issue.

Do you have any add-in? If so, check by turning them off one by one.
When you identify the offending add-in. Check if it has setting/option.

Another place to look in your XLStart folder for personal.xlsb
Check if you have any code in the workbook that may doing something odd there.

Looks like the formula bar, has superscript & subscript mixed in there with large font setting.
