Excel Freezes

I frequently work with multiple files open, most of them minimized. (All of my files are fairly large, complex files with multiple worksheets in them.) When working in one spreadsheet it will often freeze up. Nothing I enter shows up, and the arrows don't work to move the cursor around, and I am unable to save the workbook. If I open one of the minimized files and then minimize it again the original I was working on is unfrozen and I am allowed to continue. It's a work around, but an not efficient one.

Is there any way to fix this?

The only way to fix it try to avoid it is to add more RAM to the computer (16 Gb or 32 Gb)
as Excel is the worst sofware I know for wasting ressources, it needs to load everything in memory ‼
The more opened workbook, the less RAM, the more chances to be frozen, crashed, to have a data loss ! …
Multiple workbooks opened, you are gambling !

After opening the workbooks, see the RAM free in the Windows system.
Maybe with 32 Gb RAM it could be better but not sure as Excel was not designed for big data …
If you are under a 32 bits Excel version, if you do not have important VBA codes,
you may try to install a 64 bits Excel version which better manages the RAM than the 32 bits version.
As I've already seen issues under 64 bits version so that's just advice but I don't guarantee anything …

Understood, I am running a 64 bit system. I will check the RAM usage and consider the upgrade to 32Gb

Thanks,

As a reminder, using Excel with multiple workbooks opened is like a casino roulette gambling with all the bucks on the zero !
Your OS is 64 bits but maybe your Excel version is only 32 bits …
