I'm creating a work book with multiple data tables and graphs that will be used over at least a year. I would like to select all available dates in the data table and then adjust the time frame on the graph using the 'Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels' field in the Data source box for the graph. This allows me to adjust the time frame on the graph without having to adjust each data point.
This works fine when the x-axis is set as a 'date axis'. It doesn't work at all when the x-axis is set as a 'text axis'. This would be fine, except that in Excel 2010 (& 2007), columns on a column chart with a 'text axis' change to a strangely skinny format. I need the graph to show the normal width columns, and still have the 'date axis' functionality.
The link is to a worksheet with an example in both formats. The graph set ups are exactly the same in every way except that in the top graph, the x-axis is set as text, in the bottom graph the x-axis is set as date.

How can I get the text axis columns on a date axis chart?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
