Combining Stacked Column and Line Chart

Naveen N

Member
HI Reader,

Please find enclosed excel with sample data for my chart.

I need to create a stacked Column Chart with the data.
Also Column J – should be a line chart.
Column K should be a line chart (I will have the data label and fill the Line color as No fill).
And Column L is also a Line chart.

I have been having some challenges doing this.
Please let me know the steps to have line chart in a stacked Column chart.

Regards,
Naveen N

Hows this:

Add a new Series
Apply the new series to the Secondary Axis
Then Change the Chart Type for the new Series
When dealing with two axis make sure the axis scaling is the same or the 80% Goal may not plot in the correct place relative to the Left Axis

HI Hui,

Thanks for the response.
I needed some inputs on adding secondary axis.

Will I be adding Vertical Secondary axis or Horizontal Secondary Axis?
How do I ensure axis scale is the same?
The Legends have changed from Square to line, is it because of adding line chart.

Also I need Column K and L to be line chart. Should I follow the same process?

Regards,
Naveen N

Actually in the file above they are all on the Primary Vertical Axis
and so comments about scale don't matter

Right click on any series and select Change Series Chart Type

This dialog looks different in Different Excel versions, so yours may not look the same as mine (2016)

On a side note, the new dialog from XL 2016 looks pretty sweet for charting! I'll have to play around with that, Hui. :)
