Charting multiple series over multiple years

I can easily create bar graphs that plot multiple series over multiple years, but I keep thinking there should be different/better options. Too many series/years can make graphs difficult to read, so I wanted to see if anyone has any other ideas on charting this kind of data.

There is no easy solution for plotting lots of data in a chart
One technique I like is to make the most recent year bold
The previous years use a more faded value each year
Excel even has templates that are setup like that

I usually set up slicer or other control to limit amount of information displayed in charts.

For an example, monthly level view for 2 year comparison.
